THE STORY OF PUXI
Explore the City’s Many Layers
Shanghai did not grow into one city all at once. On the west side of the Huangpu River, the traditional Chinese Old City, the former International Settlement and the former French Concession developed in very different ways. Today, a walk through Puxi lets us see how these histories meet in the streets and in everyday life.
I grew up in Shanghai and have watched the city change around me. On this private tour, I would like to share both the famous places and the smaller details you might otherwise pass by. We can explore at your pace, pause for a local snack and adapt the route to your interests.
This is mainly a walking day. For longer distances, we can take the metro or a DiDi taxi. The metro is often the most practical choice and also a small part of everyday Shanghai life.
A POSSIBLE ROUTE
From the Bund to the French Concession
These are possibilities for a full day, not a rigid checklist. We will decide together what deserves more time.
We might begin beside the grand historic buildings of the Bund and continue towards Nanjing Road and People’s Square. On a weekend, the Marriage Market in People’s Park may be an interesting stop if it is taking place. The Old City offers another side of Shanghai, with traditional lanes and the option to visit Yu Garden.
Later, we can explore the former French Concession. Wukang Road, shikumen lanes and Fuxing Park each show a different part of its character. Depending on your interests and the time available, we can include a museum or spend longer walking through the neighbourhood. PRACTICAL INFORMATION
A Day Planned Around You
A full-day tour can take up to eight hours, with a flexible start time. I usually meet you in your hotel lobby, and we choose a route that suits your interests, walking pace and the weather. If you have less time, we can make a shorter version.
My private guiding fee covers the planning and my time with you. Metro or taxi fares, meals, drinks, entrance tickets and personal purchases are separate. If you would like a private car with a driver, I can arrange one and confirm its additional cost in advance.
Yu Garden, museums and other attractions are optional. Admission fees and opening arrangements may change, so I will check the practical details while planning your day. Tell me if there is a place you especially want to see.
At the end of the tour, I can bring you back to your hotel or another agreed place in downtown Shanghai.
